On 20 - 21 March 2023, Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, was invited by Wuxi Government to attend the 2023 Wuxi International Month and International Cherry Blossom Festival in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province.
Ambassador Lada, along with Consuls-General from Shanghai, and leaders of local governments in Germany, Hungary, Poland and Mongolia had a joint courtesy meeting with Mr. Zhao Jianjun, Mayor of Wuxi, where Wuxi’s history, culture and strength in its economy, innovation and industrial system were highlighted and areas of mutually beneficial cooperation were explored.
Ambassador Lada was further invited to join the leaders of Wuxi and Jiangsu for the launching ceremony of the 2023 Wuxi International Month and International Cherry Blossom Festival. During the Official Banquet, she also had an opportunity to discuss with Mr. Zhao Jianjun, Mayor of Wuxi, Mr. Zhou Wendong, Vice Mayor of Wuxi, and Mr. Zhan Yi, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Wuxi, to further Thailand - Wuxi concrete cooperation on such areas as trade and investment, urban development, agriculture and fisheries science, and Buddhism.
At this event, Ambassador Lada also interacted and exchanged with other Chinese leaders such as Mr. Li Zhaoxing, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Mr. Yuan Mindao, Vice President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and Ms. Yang Jing, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Province.
The Government of Wuxi arranged cultural programs and study visits for Ambassador Lada such as the visit to Lingshan Buddhist Scenic Spot, the night view of cherry blossom at Yuantouzhu Park as well as the visits to Shangxianhu Fund Park on finance and private funds development and City Management Center on smart city management of Wuxi. 无锡一年一度的国际赏樱周于2014年首次举行，旨在促进无锡与包括日本在内的国际合作伙伴在共同感兴趣的领域的相互合作。1987年，日本将樱花树作为友谊的象征从日本带到了无锡。2022年，无锡首次在国际赏樱周期间举办无锡“国际月”，以扩大无锡的国际参与和合作。The annual International Cherry Blossom Festival in Wuxi was first held in 2014 to promote cooperation in areas of mutual interest between Wuxi and international partners, including Japan that brought cherry blossom trees from Japan to Wuxi in 1987 as a symbol of friendship. In 2022, Wuxi started to organize for the first time the Wuxi Internal Month concurrently with the International Cherry Blossom Festival to broaden Wuxi’s international engagement and cooperation.
